[HOST_Carolann] I think we will get started now. Welcome everyone! And a special welcome to Mignon Murrell, who will be speaking to us about Healing Prayer.
[HOST_Carolann] There is a special handout prepared which you can get by going to www.restministries.org/CHAT/handout_murrell.pdf
[HOST_Carolann] Welcome Mignon, and I will now turn our time over to you.
GUEST_MIGNON> Hello my name is Mignon and I am delighted and blessed to be able to speak with you today. I want to start out by giving you some background information and then we can start with questions.
GUEST_MIGNON> . I have struggled with FMS for the last 10 years. Like many of you, I have spent thousands on doctors, medicines, therapies and holistic remedies searching for something that would give me relief.
GUEST_MIGNON> This talk is what I have learned on my walk with FMS and the Lord.
GUEST_MIGNON> About two years a go I had a major turn around in regards to my health. At that time, I had been steadily growing in my walk with the Lord and I began to seek more information on Christian Healing prayer.
GUEST_MIGNON> I attended a 3-day Christian healing prayer intensive at Francis MacNutt's Christian Healing Center in Florida.
GUEST_MIGNON> It was there that I began to experience great inner and physical healing and learned of the importance that Inner Healing had on my health.
GUEST_MIGNON> Through my own experience, I have seen that often before we can have great physical healing, we usually need some form Inner Healing to remove any personal obstacles to our full healing.
GUEST_MIGNON> When I use the term Inner Healing I am referring specifically to the healing of emotions, past memories and spiritual oppression.
GUEST_MIGNON> Before I go any further I want to remind us of two things:
GUEST_MIGNON> Again 2 things #1: We need to be fully aware of "who" our faith is in
GUEST_MIGNON> As believers our faith rests in Jesus Christ. We do not have faith in "healing" we have faith in THE ONE who heals.
GUEST_MIGNON> This frees us from having to worry about how much or how little faith we personally have for our own healing and focuses our attention on the one who is completely faithful.
GUEST_MIGNON> #2: God still heals, even in the church, today.
GUEST_MIGNON> Many churches can spend too much time praying for physical healing as the "root cause" of a person's problem
GUEST_MIGNON> when really there can be an emotional "root cause" that needs to be dealt with for the person to have full healing in their physical body
GUEST_MIGNON> Jesus is interested in our full healing, not just our physical healing.
GUEST_MIGNON> There are many reasons, both spiritual and physical, why a person could be suffering with a chronic illness.
GUEST_MIGNON> There are three specific areas that I think need to be examined in the life of a believer who suffers with chronic illness.
GUEST_MIGNON> Please remember that include my self in that category so what I am telling you I have also had to consider and deal with in my own life.
GUEST_MIGNON> The Three Areas of Inner Healing we will cover are:
GUEST_MIGNON> Healing Unforgiveness
GUEST_MIGNON> Healing of past memories
GUEST_MIGNON> and Healing thru Renouncement and Repentance
GUEST_MIGNON> I have sent Carolann additional prayers and information that will be added to the rest ministries handout later.
GUEST_MIGNON> Now I will go through the 3 areas and open them up to questions.
GUEST_MIGNON> The first area we should look at is the most important and most powerful: Healing Unforgiveness
GUEST_MIGNON> Now let me clarify this, I am NOT saying that if you have a chronic illness it is because you have unforgiveness or sin in your life.
GUEST_MIGNON> I am saying that when we are dealing with a long-term illness it is best for us to be cleansed of anything that could make our lives more difficult.
Mary_LouC> Amen, Mignon!
GUEST_MIGNON> Of all of the things out there in the world there is nothing more toxic to the soul and body than unforgiveness
GUEST_MIGNON> When we refuse to forgive a person all of the damage they have done stays locked up with our souls slowly poisoning us from the inside out.
GUEST_MIGNON> This is like putting ourselves into a prison where we are locked up however we have the key to freedom
GUEST_MIGNON> I personally have experienced great healing when I forgave specific people and events that occurred
GUEST_MIGNON> At times when we find it hard to forgive, can't it?
GUEST_MIGNON> Sorry about that, forgive my typos, It can be hard to forgive at times, can't it?
Mary_LouC> Yes, anger and hurt makes it difficult.
GUEST_MIGNON> Yes they do, what do you do with that anger and hurt?
[HOST_Carolann] I tend to stew
GUEST_MIGNON> So do I
[HOST_Carolann] it all stays inside churning around
Mary_LouC> It's a great way to get ulcers!
Nana> I give it to Jesus
GUEST_MIGNON> over time that pain turns inward and can cause us problems
GUEST_MIGNON> Nana is right we need to learn how to give it to Jesus
GUEST_MIGNON> At times when we find it hard to forgive, we need to ask Jesus to give us the grace to forgive.
GUEST_MIGNON> This puts the power and ability back into His hands, where it belongs
GUEST_MIGNON> When we do this, we are surrendering to His will and power
GUEST_MIGNON> we open the door for Jesus to come in and enable us to forgive and be free from that pain.
GUEST_MIGNON> Does this make sense to any of you?
Mary_LouC> I put the person I'm angry with in Christ's hands, too. I find that helps me get over my hurt more quickly.
GUEST_MIGNON> Very Good, it speeds up the healing doesn't it?
Mary_LouC> Yes. Once I have relinquished the person, the experience and the feelings that go with it, healing and forgiveness do come.
Anne> I have a question, should I wait till you have finished with all 3 points?
[HOST_Carolann] we need help to forgive because it goes against our nature
Alice> But at times, don't you find yourself taking it back after giving it over to Jesus?
Alice> I hate to admit it, but I do that
Mary_LouC> If I do, Alice, then I just re-commit the person and situation and emotions back to Jesus.
GUEST_MIGNON> Carolann is right, it goes against our nature
Mary_LouC> Do it as many times as it takes and you'll be free of it.
GUEST_MIGNON> Alice at those moments you need to remind your self that you have given it to Jesus and ask him to free you of the burden of carrying it
GUEST_MIGNON> Anne- please ask your question
Anne> What you are saying was introduced to me previously. I asked the holy spirit to bring to mind each and every person that I was not forgiving (and there were many!) but I'm still angry--what should I do?
GUEST_MIGNON> Good question which leads me to my second point
GUEST_MIGNON> Do you know the difference between forgiving and forgetting?
Alice> Yes, I've found that I have to do it over and over -- kind of like Jacob wrestling with God until we finally give it over completely
GUEST_MIGNON> Forgiving someone doesn't mean that we have to forget what was done to us
[HOST_Carolann] they are not the same
GUEST_MIGNON> Again please forgive my typos, Yes Carolann they are not the same. For many of us we think as Christians
GUEST_MIGNON> we are supposed to go back into that environment with that person who has hurt us
GUEST_MIGNON> once we have forgiven them, this is not always the case
GUEST_MIGNON> Toxic people can be forgiven, but their tendency to abuse cannot be forgotten
GUEST_MIGNON> God does not expect us to act like nothing every happened
[HOST_Carolann] so I guess the question is what do we do with the memory or that event
GUEST_MIGNON> Thank you Carolann this leads us to #2- Healing of memories
GUEST_MIGNON> Memories and hurts inflicted upon us in the past can still have a very powerful effect on our lives and health today.
GUEST_MIGNON> As difficult as dealing with our past memories may be, there is good news:
GUEST_MIGNON> Jesus truly has the power to move through our painful memories and bring us healing and freedom from them.
GUEST_MIGNON> In dealing with a chronic illness there are usually many areas where a person has been wounded
GUEST_MIGNON> This is the same with forgiveness
GUEST_MIGNON> Often painful memories are pushed down into our subconscious and if they are not dealt with can create problems for us in the future.
GUEST_MIGNON> How do you deal with these when they come up?
GUEST_MIGNON> This is a hard question isn't it?
[HOST_Carolann] sometimes I have found myself getting carried away with reliving the painful event and feeling the same emotions
GUEST_MIGNON> Yes I do too
Nana> I was taught to use guided imagery, focused on Jesus, and picture myself handing Him my little "brown bags" appropriately labelled. He takes them from me, smiles and tells me to let go and not carry them anymore.
[HOST_Carolann] before I know it I am feeling hurt or upset just like the first time
GUEST_MIGNON> It can become a vicious cycle can't it?
Mary_LouC> I think the tendency is to bury those memories if possible. But I think if we want to be healed from them we have to do the same as with forgiveness -- give the situation to the Lord.
Mary_LouC> But it's painful sitting down with Jesus and going through the events.
GUEST_MIGNON> you right Mary Lou, but this takes a deep level of Trust in Jesus
Mary_LouC> Sometimes I have cried so much, I have been afraid that I wouldn't be able to stop!
GUEST_MIGNON> It also takes some time
GUEST_MIGNON> We need to remember here that Jesus' love and healing are not bound by time
GUEST_MIGNON> by the way , Mary Lou when we cry from emotional experiences we are releasing toxins from the body
GUEST_MIGNON> so that is not always a bad thing
[HOST_Carolann] so the old saying have a good cry is true!!!
GUEST_MIGNON> Amen
GUEST_MIGNON> Like I said Jesus is not bound by space or time
GUEST_MIGNON> He has the power to go back with us in those memories and heal them
lyla> hi I work in grief therapy, often today's events trigger wounds of the past, He often wants 2 Heal the roots
GUEST_MIGNON> He has the power to show us what really occurred when things were happening to us that were painful
GUEST_MIGNON> Lyla is right, Jesus goes after the root cause in our memories to heal us from them
GUEST_MIGNON> When you struggle with a chronic illness you may have many root causes that need to be dealt with
GUEST_MIGNON> I certainly have and still do
lyla> there's where real freedom is
GUEST_MIGNON> You will find that once you sit down and ask Jesus to take you back over that memory
GUEST_MIGNON> that He will guide you through it and bring relief to the places where you are hurting
GUEST_MIGNON> once you have done this you will start to find
GUEST_MIGNON> that that memory has lost it's emotional hold on you
GUEST_MIGNON> You may also find that any physical hold on your body will also be lessened
lyla> amen it's awesome
GUEST_MIGNON> Do any of you have questions about this process?
GUEST_MIGNON> This is alot to take in but I know all of you have struggled so long with your illnesses
Mary_LouC> Is this something we can work through on our own with Jesus or would you suggest having a counsellor or pastor work through with you?
GUEST_MIGNON> that you are ready for freedom from the struggle
Kevin_OH> I wonder about my own feelings sometimes. Consciously, I don't feel angry or needing to forgive anyone I haven't already but then I wonder if it's really true. Yes, I pray for the Lord to reveal those needs in my life. And I don't want to sound self-righteous by any means. But, on the other hand, I'm almost always feeling anger about being sick and in pain all of the time.
GUEST_MIGNON> Mary Lou's question is great
GUEST_MIGNON> Kevin I understand, you feel that way because you are human
GUEST_MIGNON> First Mary Lou's question
lyla> I go to a support group
GUEST_MIGNON> This is something you can do on your own with Jesus, however depending on your background
GUEST_MIGNON> you might want to be a part of a support group , meet with a counsellor or trusted friend
GUEST_MIGNON> I have done it all 3 ways
GUEST_MIGNON> And every time I am blessed- eventually it will get down to you and Jesus
GUEST_MIGNON> Kevin-It is normal to be angry and upset about being in pain and being tired all of the time
GUEST_MIGNON> Don't feel bad for that
GUEST_MIGNON> God expects you to be honest with how your feeling
GUEST_MIGNON> In those times it can be hard to walk with Him
lyla> anger is part of grief
GUEST_MIGNON> Yes anger is a part of grief and we all have to deal with it on some level
GUEST_MIGNON> But the trick is that even though we suffer, we still know that God has a plan
Kevin_OH> I know God understands. It's a bit harder with my family.
GUEST_MIGNON> Yes I have been there too, you can't make them understand
GUEST_MIGNON> All you can do is pray for them to have the same grace of understanding that God has given to you
GUEST_MIGNON> And that leads me to my last point, Healing thru renouncement
GUEST_MIGNON> This is the area that many believers who struggle with a chronic illness get "stuck" in.
GUEST_MIGNON> Mainly because they are not aware of how outside spiritual influences can affect their health.
GUEST_MIGNON> This area includes freeing ourselves from any past involvement in the occult.
GUEST_MIGNON> Now before you make any judgements you need to know that Occult beliefs and practices are everywhere and are now considered relatively normal by our society.
GUEST_MIGNON> Some of the "accepted practices" are:
GUEST_MIGNON> Playing with a Ouija board or Tarot cards, Seeking to know about the future from a psychic, fortune-teller or following horoscopes
GUEST_MIGNON> Practicing astrology, or transcendental meditation,
GUEST_MIGNON> believing in the power or protection of amulets or crystals
GUEST_MIGNON> If you have ever been involved with any of these things you need to be set free from their influences
GUEST_MIGNON> Satan is a legalist and is always looking for areas where he can harass believers.
GUEST_MIGNON> ANY type of occult or New Age practice you are opening a door to Him and giving him legal entrance.
GUEST_MIGNON> We need to close that door if it has been opened, so that we can be free for any of it's harmful effects.
GUEST_MIGNON> Think back over your life and ask the Holy Spirit to show you where you might have been directly OR indirectly involved in the occult.
GUEST_MIGNON> Have you been around people or family members that have been involved in Occult practices?
[HOST_Carolann] yes, and have been myself
GUEST_MIGNON> Often it is not something we have done but what others around us have exposed us to
GUEST_MIGNON> I speak about this from personal experience
Mary_LouC> The occult has crept into some healing methods as well, hasn't it, Mignon? I'm thinking about Reiki, etc. Sometimes we get desperate and want to be well so much we'll try almost anything!
GUEST_MIGNON> Before I was a believer I was involved in the New age movement
GUEST_MIGNON> I saw the many ways Satan worked against believers and one of his favourites was to harass people who were suffering with a chronic illness
GUEST_MIGNON> Now let me say that if you are sick it is not necessarily Satan's attack
GUEST_MIGNON> remember like we said in the beginning, we just want to clear out of our lives anything that could make our walk more difficult
GUEST_MIGNON> And yes Mary Lou- the Occult has crept up everywhere, especially in the healing arts
GUEST_MIGNON> We do not need to be afraid however because the enemy has already lost
Kevin_OH> you use the words "healing" and "forgiveness" almost interchangeably. Maybe it's just me as those words jump out at me. Is that by design or just preference?
GUEST_MIGNON> Remember, he is a legalist and can only be there is we allow it or have opened a door to it, that is why it is important for us to make sure
GUEST_MIGNON> we're free from any of it's effects
GUEST_MIGNON> Kevin; Good question, I think in some ways they are interchangeable but not always
GUEST_MIGNON> Many people who need healing don't necessarily need to work on forgiveness
GUEST_MIGNON> and vice versa to a certain extent
GUEST_MIGNON> Also I want to make sure that none of you feel condemn by any past involvement with the Occult
GUEST_MIGNON> as believers you have left that behind, the same goes for forgiveness
Kevin_OH> there is no condemnation for those in Jesus Christ
Mary_LouC> Amen, Kevin!
GUEST_MIGNON> Amen! The Lord reveals things to us, not to condemn us but to free us and help us to walk more fully into His grace
GUEST_MIGNON> We are already forgiven by the Blood of Christ and are dearly loved by Him
GUEST_MIGNON> As I said earlier, I sent Carolann some prayers and a little more info that will be added to the handout at a later time, I encourage all of you to check them out
