I
recently read this book - you may even have it on
your shelf right now! It comes very highly recommended,
so I wanted to let you know about it, in case you
haven't read it yet.
"Twelve
Ways to Turn Your Pain Into Praise: Biblical Steps
to Wholeness in Christ"
by Linda Newton. Have you seen her ad at
the top of the last few newsletters? She was kind
to support our ministry by placing an ad, but I
also loved the book!
Linda's book is an excellent book for anyone to
read, however, as the director of a Christian ministry
for those with illness, I found it a great tool
specifically for those trying to overcome depression
or frustrations associated with illness.
Linda was a guest on my Hope Endures radio podcast
and continues to encourage many people through the
archived show each week.
There are 3 elements that made this book stand
out for me:
(1) Linda provides helpful tools that give the
reader simple projects at the end of each chapter
so that there is something constructive s/he can
do to reach the place Linda speaks of.
(2) Linda is vulnerable and shares her own stories,
personalizing the book and helping the reader feel
like the author is a friend on the journey and not
just an educated counselor giving instruction.
(3) Although Linda writes like a friend, she happens
to be a very educated, professional friend. She
wrote this book with a particular "example"
client who she counsels throughout the book and
gives her client the same steps and tips that she
does to the reader. It's interesting to see how
a typical counseling session with Linda may take
place and also may lessen the fears for the many
people who have considered a counselor but are scared
of what a session may look like.
The Biblical advice is right on and ties it all
together nicely, providing hope and motivation for
the reader to make changes so that the pain really
can be turned into praise.
You can purchase it here at Amazon and if you use
this link Rest Ministries will receive a small percentage
of the sale price (every little bit helps a lot!)

I had the wonderful opportunity to interview Linda
on my Hope Endures radio program and I know that
you will find it encouraging too. And if you've
never seen a counselor, it may give you some insight
as to what a counseling session could look like.
You can listen to the program live right now on
your computer at http://ow.ly/a0CT
or download it from itunes here: http://ow.ly/a0CO
Thanks again for spending a few minutes with me
today. I pray that you will have that assurance
that God will never leave you or forsake you, even
during the darkest moments.
A nice reminder... 1 John 2:17 "The world
and its desires pass away, but the man who does
the will of God lives forever."
God bless you,
Lisa Copen
