Did you
know that nearly 1 in 2 people live with chronic illness
in the USA and 96% of it is invisible?
Do you publish
books on topics such as illness, suffering, encouragement,
helping a hurting friend, care-giving or cancer?
Rest Ministries
Publishers, a branch of Rest
Ministries, the largest Christian organization in
the U.S. specifically reaching out to the chronically
ill with spiritual and emotional support at www.RestMinistries.org
.
We are
currently compiling our Top 100 Christian Books for People
Who Live with Chronic Illness and Those Who Care. Rest
Ministries is also the founder/sponsor of National
Invisible Chronic Illness Awareness Week, held annually
in September.
One
title published in 2007, will be presented with the
an special award; it will be recognized as a book that
exemplifies meeting the spiritual, practical and/or
emotional needs of someone who lives with a chronic
illness.
The author
of this book will be featured in HopeKeepers
Magazine, interviewed on Hope Endures podcast, and
have their book given free ad space on the Rest Ministries
web site for 90 days (with about 80,000 visitors per month).
The Top
100 list exists to help bookstore owners, publishers and
the chronically ill and those caring about them in the
following ways:
- Provide
bookstore owners with a comprehensive listing of resources
they can confidently refer their clients who have an
illness or serve someone with a chronic illness.
- Encourage
bookstore owners to increase sales and meet client's
needs by pulling books on the list off of shelves and
creating a display acknowledging National Invisible
Chronic Illness Awareness Week September 18, 2008. [Note:
Books on chronic illness are often spread all over the
store, falling into a wide variety of classifications
such as health, grief, suffering, church resources,
and even death and dying.]
- Give
publishers an outlet to advocate and promote their books
that minister to people with chronic illness. Nearly
half the U.S. population (133 million) lives with chronic
conditions and 50 million are caregivers. This "niche
market" is overwhelmingly large, but with 96% of
illnesses being invisible, there is a misconception
that health reigns.
- Present
a list of quality Christian books to those living with
illness and their loved ones, that address their spiritual
and practical needs and concerns; books rarely publicized
and sometimes hard to even locate.
- Supply
churches with a list of exceptional materials for illness/health
ministries, care-giving, and pastoral care.
The decisions
of the review committee will take into consideration editorial
excellence, professional production, originality, author
credentials relative to the book, and the value the book
provides for the reader.
We invite
you to look at your publishing company's titles and decide
on the books appropriate for consideration. The topics
of books considered are as follows:
·
Bibles
· Bible Studies
· Cancer-related
· Care-giving
· Depression
· Devotionals
· Disability/illness/health ministry
· Encouragement
· Illness-related
· Family/Parenting
· Health-related (but we are very selective)
· Help a Friend
· Mental Illness
· Suffering
* Please
note that Rest Ministries has a viewpoint on healing that
can be read here. We do not promote books that claim a
specific formula, whether it be a diet or prayer, makes
a healing inevitable.

Anyone can nominate book--publishers, authors, publicists,
